When it comes to our kids, we really want the world for them, don’t we? I mean we want to be there for them at all times, and do whatever it takes to protect them.
If you have an active boy, like I do, you are just never sure on when accident is going to strike. You just know it will. (Don’t remind me of the time Isak skateboarded in his Crocs and ended up with a broken shoulder.)
So when I browsed the #American Dental Association’s website (http://www.ada.org/) and came across a video where Dr. Maria Lopez Howell talked about the impact a hockey puck or a baseball can have to the teeth, I couldn’t agree more. It is essential to wear a mouth guard even from a young age. It’s actually even more important that you make sure your kids get used to wearing them already from the time they start to do anything even remotely dangerous. (Of course I didn’t see this coming when Isak put his Crocs on and headed for the door…)
However, what got me thinking was that we shouldn’t limit this to organized sports. What if your child is off on his or her own, doing something like roller skating, skiing, biking, basket ball, hockey on the pond…are you getting what I’m getting at? It can happen anywhere at any time. Not wearing a mouth guards in situations likely to end up in a dental injury is like jumping off a cliff with no parachute: Only hoping that you will land with no injuries.
Of course I understand the dilemma that mouth guards are not likely to be worn if they are uncomfortable, bulky and prevents breathing, talking and really just hurts? No kid wants that, no matter how much you plead with him or her.
But since you have read this, you realize that there is an alternative and that is our mouth guard, the Protech Dent™ Mouth Guard. It’s super thin, allows for breathing, talking and is even up to 30% stronger than conventional mouth guards. And it comes in seven cool colors, so the kids can flash an Intense Red smile or a Charcoal Black grin.
Really, there is no reason for dental injuries with proper protection, but we have to teach the kids the right way from the start or else they will never like to wear a mouth guard.
